Welcome to Flinders University students

Welcome to our two Flinders Nutrition and Dietetic students, Lamisha and Tiarni, who started their community nutrition placement with Outback Stores this week! Visiting from Adelaide, they will be working from our Darwin Support Office on a school nutrition project for seven weeks until the 16th of August.

Outback Stores is committed to working with external organisations to deliver positive health outcomes for the communities in which we operate. We acknowledge the unique environment in which we work and see value in giving university students a remote community experience. To help us achieve this, we continue to strengthen our current partnerships with external organisations such as Flinders and Monash University.

The School Nutrition Program (SNP) aims to provide students with nutritious meals throughout the school term to improve school attendance and engagement. Access to healthy food that meets both energy and nutrient needs for students is important to help increase concentration, which can help students learn well at school as well as support growth and development.

Tiarni and Lamisha will develop documents to assist store managers in meeting the SNP nutritional requirements while also making the program easier to deliver. In weeks three and four, they will travel to Daly River and Central Australian Stores to experience the SNP in action and gain valuable insights into remote community life.
